Tambopata National Reserve is one of the most fascinating places on earth. Since it’s protected and secluded, it’s incredibly diverse. With over 1000 species of butterflies, 100 species of mammals, and 600 species of birds, it’s a scenery that you have to see at least once in your life. With the help of our experienced guides, you can visit areas that people around the world long to see. You’ll remember this adventure for many years to come, and you’ll be narrating stories to your grandchildren about it.
Arrive in the city of Puerto Maldonado, known as the Capital of Biodiversity. Start your authentic Amazonian adventure with a 25-minute boat ride, sailing along a clay-colored river, the Bajo Madre de Dios, until you reach the hidden hostel Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción. Settle into your elegant log cabin, elevated from the ground by stilts or in your comfortable room, and then head to the dining room of the Casa Grande, where a generous buffet lunch awaits you before exploring the depths of the jungle on foot, starting from the Eco Centre. Take a hike along the Concepcion trails, which exhibit nature within the property, to introduce the intricate ecosystems of the Amazon basin. Located in a protected area of the Tambopata National Reserve, in an old cocoa and rubber plantation, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción houses a primary and secondary forest inhabited by exotic fauna and tropical plants. At dusk, watch in the company of your explorer guide the enchanting transformation of the rainforest during the Rio de Noche boat ride, as animals and daytime birds give way to species adapted to the shadows of night. You will see alligators hidden in the banks and star constellations of the southern hemisphere. In the evening, enjoy an à la carte dinner inspired by the native ingredients of the Amazon. Then, return to your room or cabin to hear the songs and croaks of the forest at night.
Visit Lake Sandoval in the morning. It’s a crystal-clear mirror of water found within the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most diverse areas of the planet. As you walk through a sunny wooden passageway that leads to the lake, explorer guides regale travelers with their anecdotes about unexpected encounters with poisonous frogs and camouflaged creatures. Next, board a carved wooden canoe to paddle calmly through the mangroves and sail along with Lake Sandoval, flanked by beautiful palm trees. This serene lake is inhabited by thousands of species of birds, the threatened river wolf, howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, turtles, and black alligators. Return to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción in time for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue the Amazonian adventure by boating for about 20 minutes on the Madre de Dios River to climb the thrilling Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a safe and sophisticated system of ecologically built suspension bridges at 344 meters (1,135 feet) in length, connected by eight platforms and two panoramic observation towers. Originally built for our NGO, Inkaterra Association, to carry out conservation projects, the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway offers an unforgettable opportunity to observe the Amazon Forest from the treetops and understand its colossal dimension. Ascend the first dizzying tower 38 meters (124 feet) above the ground, with the senses alerted in search of toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and the three-toed sloth.
At dusk, under the blanket of darkness, explore the forest on foot as your senses sharpen to detect movements between the vegetation and the wild sounds of the jungle. Back at the hostel, a la carte dinner awaits you from 19:30.
Enjoy your last morning waking up to the cacophony of jungle sounds in this wonder of pristine nature, as parakeet parrots from trees and monkeys swing between branches. Breakfast is served at the Casa Grande, and check-out is at 10:00. Depending on your return flight schedule today, you can request lunch (additional cost applies). Then, embark on your wooden boat to sail back for 25 minutes down the winding Madre de Dios River. Finally, end the Puerto Maldonado amazon tour by making a short visit to the Butterfly Garden before arriving at the airport.
