Going to Peru is well, if you ever have an opportunity in your life to go there, you should do it because it is absolutely mind-boggling.

American actor Dean Stockwell must have known what he was talking about when he said this.

And that’s because Peru is a country brimming with infinite possibilities. It’s a country of fascinating history, rich culture, thrilling adventures, and delicious cuisines.

What’s not to like?

Although Peru is famous for the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many other exciting locations in Peru that you have to see at least once (or more) in your life.

So, if you’re looking to hit some amazing spots in Peru, you’ve come to the right place.

In this blog, we’ll be discussing some of the best destinations in Peru and why you should visit them.

All aboard the Inka Tours Express!

  1. Nazca Lines

Considering Halloween is just around the corner, we thought it’d be a good idea to start this list with something spooky. And it doesn’t get more bizarre than Nazca Lines.

The mysterious Nazca Lines can be seen in the Peruvian desert, just a few hours south of Lima.

These lines were first discovered by a Peruvian archeologist in the early 1900s. The second sighting was reported somewhere in the late 1930’s, when a few pilots observed the lines from the air and noticed they formed unique patterns and images.

At that time, one could see the Nazca Lines from the ground in Nazca and Paracas. However, the drawings are so massive – and so many, that you need to look at them through an aerial view to truly appreciate and understand.

So far, no one exactly knows who carved these lines or why. Some people believe they represent an astronomical calendar, while other conspiracy theories suggest these lines are launch pads for aliens.

In any case, the Nazca Lines remain one of the world’s most baffling mysteries, which is precisely why you should visit them.

  1. Cusco

Once the capital of the Incan Empire, Cusco is a colorful city located in the Peruvian Andes.

Today, it’s one of Peru’s most-visited destinations – and for solid reasons. You can easily go to Machu Picchu and the highly popular Sacred Valley of The Incas through Cusco.

Walking through the busy and awe-inspiring streets of Cusco is like visiting a museum. Notre service clients, composé de conseillers et de pharmaciens, est à votre écoute du asgg.fr/ lundi au vendredi de 8h30/12h30 – 14h/18h. That’s probably why it holds a spot in United Nations Educational, Scientific, And Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Heritage Site list.

The city’s most famous attraction is the main square, Plaza de Armas. It’s home to two equally impressive architectures, The Cathedral and La Compania. So, if you’re looking to grab a meal, start a tour, or observe the culture, Plaza de Armas is a great place to begin.

  1. Huacachina

Huacachina is a beautiful small town built around South America’s only natural oasis. Surrounded by magnificent sand dunes, it’s something straight out of a post-apocalyptic Hollywood film.

If you’re one of those sporty, adventurous types, then you have to visit Huacachina. Usually, people come here to try sandboarding. It’s similar to snowboarding, except for one major difference: you’re surfing down sand dunes instead of snow dunes. (Well, duh!)

And if that doesn’t seem like your thing, don’t worry. You can rent dune buggies and bask in the beauty of the place.

Apart from its adventurous opportunities, you can also visit Huacachina to try out some local produce from the bodegas or wineries.

  1. Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)

No doubt, Peru is more famous for the remnants of an ancient civilization. But in 2015, yet another diverse geographic landscape made its way to Peru’s already strong roster of must-see destinations.

That’s right.

Almost six years ago, Vinicuna, The Mountain of Seven Colors, or The Rainbow Mountain, was discovered when the snow covering it melted. What people thought of just an ordinary mountain was nothing short of a miracle.

Thanks to the changing climate conditions and sedimentary rocks, the Rainbow Mountain consists of multiple layers of different hues, such as rust red, lavender, turquoise, and gold, among many others.

The Rainbow Mountain is another shining example of how Peru hit the jackpot in terms of natural and beautiful landscapes.

We’d totally understand if other countries were jealous of Peru. 😉

  1. Machu Picchu

Whether you’re visiting Peru for the first or the hundredth time, your trip is incomplete without taking a tour of Machu Picchu.

It’s one of the world’s seven wonders!

Located 2,340 meters high in the Andes, Machu Picchu mostly remains surrounded by mist. So much that it remained hidden for centuries, leading people to call it ‘The Lost City of The Incas’.

(Fun Fact: The Hollywood classic film Raiders of The Lost Ark was said to be greatly inspired by the history of the Incas and Machu Picchu.)

What’s even more interesting is that an explorer accidentally discovered Machu Picchu. Since then, it has been on a lot of people’s bucket lists. But that also means you should be prepared for hoards of people, because rarely is the place less crowded.

Ready To Embark on An Exciting Journey?

We’d have to write like, 37 more blogs to cover ALL the places you must visit in Peru. But for now, the attractions mentioned in this list should do.

One of the best things about Peru is that it has someone for everyone: lakes for sea lovers, jungles for animal lovers, and mountains for adventure lovers.

And if you’re looking for someone to show you these attractions, contacting Inka Tours would be a wise thing to do. Our experienced guides possess great knowledge that would make your trip worth remembering for many years.
